Guitar Hero Cake #2
I don't always post remakes of cakes that I have done in the past - but this one deserves it. At the end of last school year we gave Camryn's teacher, Mrs. Schott, a coupon for a cake and she decided to redeem it for her son Jackson's birthday. He saw the Guitar Hero cake on my website and wanted it. It is the size of the actual game guitar. Jackson looked pretty excited when they picked it up and they were practically mobbed by the neighborhood kids, almost all of them had Mrs. Schott and loved her as much as Camryn did.

CTR Cake
I made this CTR Cake for my nephew who was baptized this month. His mom wanted to keep it simple, so we went with a white buttercream frosting with fondant ribbon and dots and a fondant CTR shield. The top layer was white cake with a raspberry sour cream filling and the bottom layer was chocolate with Oreo filling. I am so proud of Zack and was happy to make this cake to celebrate this special occasion.

Vampire Cake
I made this vampire cake for a girl turning 11. Her party was around Halloween and I somehow managed to forget to post this. I wanted the cake to be cute and fun, because the girl was younger. I think the cartoony vampire worked. This same week I also made another Twilight cake for a girl the same age.

Leanna's Sweet Sixteen
Soccer friends asked if I would do a cake for their older daughter's Sweet Sixteen party. She picked a very sophisticated cake - this wedding cake (the middle one) she saw on the TLC show Cake Boss.
I am not much of a piper, but I think it turned out good and I really like the large flowers. Thank goodness for YouTube instructional videos that showed how to make them. The bottom layer is chocolate with chocolate buttercream filling and the top layer is the family's red velvet cake recipe.

King of the Jungle Baby Shower Cake
A client was throwing a baby shower and asked me to make a marble cake that would match the King of the Jungle decorations she had gotten on partypail.com. This is what I came up with.
I was working on my son's Diego cake and was able to make similar decorations all at the same time. It worked out great.
Go, Diego. Go! Cake
My son, Seth, had a Diego Birthday Party. I made him this cake. It is a lemon cake with buttercream frosting and marshmallow fondant decorations. The Diego figure is a candle I bought at Michael's. He loved the cake and had a fun party.

Stork Baby Shower Cake
I made this cake for a baby shower I was co-hosting this last weekend. My friend, April, is having her first girl after having 2 boys. I love the stork idea - when my kids were born I wrapped them up, put them in a basket, and took pictures of them on my doorstep. The cake is lemon with buttercream frosting and decorated with marshmallow fondant.

Curious George Cake
I made this cake for a 1 year old's birthday. I was worried about getting the George just right, but he turned out pretty good. Some kids were over playing the day I was working on this and when they left I noticed the tiny candle off George's cake was missing. Apparently, one of the kids had to have a taste - at least it was something I could remake in about 30 seconds! The cake was marble, frosted in buttercream, and decorated with marshmallow fondant.

BYU Cake / U of U Cake
Our Bishop's birthday was last week and I thought he deserved a cake, so I asked his kids what he was into. Pretty much BYU football was all they came up with. So I planned out a cake, then my husband said I should make it a U of U cake instead (BYU & U of U are apparently rivals). We compromised and I made one side of the cake U of U - which was to be shown first, then when the cake was turned around the Bishop would see the BYU side. His son later told me that the U of U logo was destroyed by stabbing it with a fork. I'm sure it still tasted good!

Lego Cake
This cake was made for a "Build It" themed party. The kids built their own pizzas, marshmallow shooters, and things like that. The birthday boy is also getting a trip to LegoLand, so this cake was perfect. I had some trouble making the divots - I tried to make them out of cake, but they kept falling apart. I finally gave up and matched fondant to the icing and made the divots from fondant. The colors were so bright, which was perfect. I dropped the cake off and headed out to my car. The mom came running out - the birthday boy's little sister had stuck her fingers in the cake. I ran back in to do some emergency surgery.

Luau Anniversary Cake
If you type in Luau cakes in Google Images - my Flip Flop cake is on the 1st page (pretty cool, eh?). That is how this customer found me. He ordered this cake for an anniversary party. It is iced in buttercream. The waterfall is a strip if marshmallow fondant that I had not completely mixed the color into, creating the marbleized look. I made the rest of the decorations with fondant also. When I dropped off the cake, the couple's daughters said how much the little man looked liked their dad.

Princess Haley Cake
This cake was for a little girl who was turning 1. The crown and bows are marshmallow fondant with some gumpaste powder mixed in to help with the drying. I am always nervous about this Las Vegas heat and what it will do to the cakes. The party was fun with lots of food and the birthday girl was so cute. She was terrified of the balloons and mystified about what to do with the candles.

Baby Boy Shower Cake
I made this cake for a customer who was throwing a shower for a family member. The baby boy is coming out like a gift and the booties are little Converse. The decorations are marshmallow fondant with some gumpaste powder mixed in to help it dry. The heat in the summer make fondant a little tricky. The cake is white with fresh strawberries and a strawberry gel filling and is covered in whipped cream frosting.

I made this video for my Technology in the Library class this spring and I thought I would share.

Twilight Cake
My oldest daughter, Alexis, had a Twilight Birthday Party this weekend. She wanted the different images from the 4 Twilight books on the cake. I made an apple (okay, I covered a plastic one - the party planning required me to cheat a little), a white flower that I painted with red dye, a broken ribbon that went around the cake, and the cake was topped like a chess board and had a queen piece all made of Marshmallow fondant. The cake was white with strawberry filling - she wanted it to look like blood inside! It was a fun party and the cake was perfect for it.

Truck Cake
My brother asked me to make this cake for a co-worker, with only 2 days notice. I had to back the truck in cardboard because there wasn't time for it to dry. I thought the truck ended up looking pretty cool, considering I don't know anything about trucks. I also liked the little road signs I put around the cake. The tiny details were tough to do, but really brought the cake together.

Camp Rock Cake
A mom had seen my daughter's Camp Rock cake online and called to see if I could make one for her little girl. She wanted it to be more Rock 'n Roll and less Camp. I went with making the logo and a guitar out of marshmallow fondant, along with music notes and a bow. The birthday girl called me after her party to tell me how much she loved it.

In Bed Wathing TV Cake
When my friends asked me what kind of cake I was working on, I said, "It's a couple in bed......watching TV." It sounded a little naughty for a second. I thought the couple turned out cute and I made Heroes logo on the TV because that was one of the birthday girl's favorite show (luckily she liked a show with an easy logo!)

Hello Kitty Cake
This is a cake I made for one of my daughter's friends. There are 5 girls that do everything together. Heather wanted a Hello Kitty cake and when I showed up at the party with this, the girls loved it. Heather told me her grandma (who is a very talented cake decorator) wouldn't let them eat the Hello Kitty figure because it was too cute.
Baby Einstein Cake
My friend's little boy was turning 1 and she asked me to make a Baby Einstein cake. The cake was white with buttercream frosting and the decorations were made of marshmallow fondant. I spent forever trying to get the elephant's trunk to point up and couldn't get it. He's still cute though.

Video Poker Cake
This cake was a challenge. The only thing I knew about Video Poker was they have the machines at 7-11. I actually went to a 7-11 store and took some photos. I didn't even know what a good hand would be, I went with 4 aces because that would be easier to make than face cards. It is a white cake filled with custard and fresh strawberries.

Sea Turtle
I made this cake for a little girl who was have a luau themed party, and the mom had requested a turtle. There is a little cake under the shell and the rest of the turtle is made from Marshmallow fondant. I liked the way the coral looking pieces behind the turtle turned out. They are pieces of fondant that were rolled out and had little circles cut into it and dried on a curved surface.

Hannah Montana cake
Last week I made 3 cakes for girls that were turning 6. This one was Hannah Montana themed. The bottom layer is a star with zebra print. The top layer is round with black fondant stars. The girl's name is across the front with a country and rock guitar made of fondant on either side. The cake is topped with the Hannah Montana logo and six stars. I really liked how the logo turned out. I used a small round decorating tip to imprint on the wording.

Princess Castle Cake
This cake was inspired by one found on the Freed's Bakery site. I was having one of those nights when nothing went right. The flowers I had made previously were way too big and the vines looked bad, and I couldn't get the towers to stay. I was a rough night, but I got through it and the cake turned out cute. The mom had bought little princess figurines and was going to put them around the cake.

Camp Rock Cake
Well, my Camryn turned 6 and due to her undying love for Nick Jonas, she wanted to have a Camp Rock Birthday Party. It was fun. We set up the tent in the backyard and did crafts, danced, roasted hot dogs. told funny ghost stories and of course, had cake. I used an X-acto knife to cut out the logo and tried to make the girl singing look like Camryn - they are even wearing the same outfit. I thought the fire turned out pretty cool. I just barely kneed together yellow, red, and orange fondant to make it.

Cowboy Cake
A customer requested a cowboy themed cake, and I came up with the BRILLIANT idea to make the cake look like hay bales with a cowboy on top. I piped hay for FOREVER, but it turned out cute.

Techno Cupcakes
I am taking a class called Technology in the Library Media Center - it is basically how to use equipment and programs on the computer that can be used in a school library. One assignment was to make a PhotoStory video about yourself. I made my video about how I got started making cakes. For a "handout" a brought these cupcakes for the class. I made marshmallow fondant icons that are found on the computer.
B-I-N-G-O
I had a customer ask for a Bingo Cake for her grandmother. This cake was hard - it required math! I had to figure out how big the squares should be and then I had to try to make straight lines. I thought it turned out good though. It is white cake with whipped cream frosting and filled with custard and fresh strawberries.

Spinster Cake
My little sister Jolynn turned 25. We tease her a bit because the rest of us were married by then. My brother asked me about making Jolynn a spinster cake and I immediately thought-CATS! I whipped this together for her to share with her roommates. I thought it was a cute joke and she is at least 5 years away from actually buying a cat.
Where the Wild Things Are
My kids' school was having a Literacy Night and one of the activities was a cake auction. The cake was to be decorated to depict a book or a character from a book. One of my favorites is Where the Wild Things Are so I made this cake. I thought it turned out pretty cute, The Wild Thing on the right looks pretty much like my favorite one from the book. I hope the cake earned money for the school.

Guitar Hero
A customer asked me to make a Guitar Hero cake. This is probably one of the most challenging cakes I have ever made - I try to avoid carving cakes because you are supposed to use a firmer cake and I like to make them as moist as possible. It was fun to make and turned out pretty well, but I learned a lot. This cake was for a Nick's 16th birthday party. It is white cake with strawberry filling.

Relief Society Birthday Dinner
Our Relief Society Birthday Dinner was about covenants this year. The program was based on the Three Dresses poem and three women spoke - one about baby blessings, one about baptism , and one about temple marriage. They thought a wedding cake would be a nice touch and asked me to make one. This is one of my favorites I found on the Internet a long time ago. It is white cake with buttercream frosting. The flowers are piped on and the ribbon and leaves are made of marshmallow fondant.
Garden Party
I did this cake for a friend's daughter who was turning two. The theme was a garden party. I thought the white picket fence turned out so cute and this was, by far, the best butterfly I have ever done. The cake was lemon flavored (my favorite) with buttercream icing and marshmallow fondant decorations.

Kung Fu Panda
I was asked to make a Kung Fu Panda cake for a boy who is turning 8. I had an idea to have Po in a fighting stance on top and bamboo around the bottom. The bamboo turned out well but Po was just too big and heavy to be standing. I had to settle and have Po doing his second favorite thing - eating dumplings! The cake is chocolate with buttercream icing and marshmallow fondant decorations.
