Every year my ward has Pixie Week. You are assigned another family to take small gifts and treats to. You leave the gift on the doorstep, ring the doorbell, then you run like crazy. We usually get caught on Monday or Tuesday, but not this year. I thought the cake might tip them off, but we actually made it the whole week and didn't tell the family it was us until the Ward Christmas Party. So, this was one of the treats we left. Merry Christmas everyone!

Shoe Cake
A client asked me to make a cake for a baby shower with shoes on it. I was thinking baby booties. Nope - the shower was for a friend who has a serious love of stylish shoes, especially those designed by Christian Louboutin. These shoes are famous for their red soles. I found an online tutorial on how to make gum paste shoes. It was a challenge, but I love to try new things.

Indiana Jones Birthday
The next week was my other nephew Zack's 7th birthday. He was Indiana Jones for Halloween and had an Indy party. This is a chocolate cake frosted in buttercream with fondant pieces. The palm tree trunks are cereal straws. They worked great! My favorite part of the cake is the crocodile waiting for Indy's rope to break, so he can have a snack.
Star Wars
My nephew Caden asked to have a party with his cousins for his birthday. His family came up to Vegas and celebrated his 5th birthday at Pump It Up. Caden's new favorite thing is Star Wars Clone Wars. He asked for a Star Wars cake and was very specific about what he wanted and what color light sabers the characters had to have. The cake is chocolate with buttercream icings and fondant decorations.

Monkey Cake
Lee Wedding
Last weekend I did this wedding cake. Weddings make me so nervous and stressed. This cake was tough because it was so simple. When there aren't any flowers or other decorations, it's easier to see any flaws in the icing of the cake. This is a two toned buttercream cake, with a ribbon to hide where the colors change from brown to cream.

High School Musical Cake
My oldest daughter just turned 10! She wanted a High School Musical party. We set up each activity as a "class" and had a Pep Rally at the end with the kids performing numbers from the movies. Everything was red and white (East High colors). The cake was white cake with strawberry filling. The stage is a piece of cardboard covered in fondant. All the decorations are fondant also. She and her friends had a great time.
Baby Shower
1st Birthday
This is another version of the Pink Cake Box cake I've done a few times. The bottom layer is white with strawberry filling, the middle is chocolate with Oreo filling, and the top was marble with chocolate filling. The mom was really sweet. She brought hair bows for my girls. Check out her website tutusassy.com.

King Putt
A boy in our neighborhood was having his birthday party at King Putt. It is an indoor miniature golf course that is in the dark and all lit up with black lights. I tried to use colors that would reflect this. The course is an Egyptian theme, hence the pyramid and the birthday boy requested there be a ball and clubs on the cake.

Beach Birthday
One of the first cakes I did was beach themed cake with a life preserver in the water. It was for a RS dinner and went along with the theme. A lady who was there called me to do a cake for her daughter's 3rd birthday. She had loved the beach decorations that I had done and asked me to do something similar. I had the idea to make an island with the #3 surfboard to make it more kiddie. It turned out pretty cute.

Graduation Cakes
I did two graduation cakes this year. The CHS cake was for my brother, Bo. His school's mascot was a cowboy, so I opted to just put the initials. The Skyhawk cake was for a friend's son. Both boys played volleyball, so I put volleyballs around the cakes, but the Skyhawk cake had footballs also. Congratulations to the graduates!

Maisy's 1st Birthday
A client called me to do her 1 year old's birthday. I made 50 cupcakes and topped them with fondant flowers. Then I made a 15 serving large cupcake. I covered the bottom in fondant and used a tool to make the grooves to look like cupcake liner paper. Then I frosted the top and added flowers and polka dots. The #1 was also made of fondant and stuck in with a sucker stick. I topped it off with a fondant cherry on top.
Beth's Cake
This is a cake I made for my SIL's mom. She turned 60 and they threw her a big surprise party. It turned out kinda wedding cake looking, but it's hard to make a more elegant cake without it turning out that way. The bottom layer was white cake with strawberry cream filling and the top was chocolate with vanilla cream filling. It is frosted in buttercream with brown scroll piping. The flowers are fondant calla lilies.

Tire Cake
Camryn's Graduation
Having taught Elementary School for 5 years, when it came time for my daughter Camryn to start preschool, I decided to teach a class in my home. My little group is now ready for kindergarten. We had a potluck to celebrate, and of course, I did a cake. The top layer and the cap are white cake and the bottom layer is chocolate. I made the little graduates out of fondant with cookie cutters, then cut out caps and gowns. The top layer has the names of my students. I am so proud of them!

Butterfly Cake
Flip Flop Luau Cake
I made this chocolate cake for 5 year old girl's luau party. They wanted it to be bright, floral, and fun. I made the base of the flip flops a few days ahead of time so it could dry. There are dowels inside to stick into the cake. I thought the bright flowers turned out cute, almost looking like a Hawaiian lai.
Camryn's Birthday Cake
My daughter Camyrn turned 5 on Sunday. We had a princess party on the Wednesday before her birthday. I bought her a Cinderella Barbie doll to go in her cake. I used the wondermold pan to make the bell shape of her dress and made a thin round cake to go under her, because the Barbies are too tall. The cake is strawberry with covered with fondant to make the dress. Camryn had so much fun and loved her cake. The Children's Cake Gallery has a close up picture of the cake.

Boston Tea Party Cake
My youngest brother is a high school senior. His government teacher gave an assignment to do a cake that had something to do with government. Hence, the Boston Tea party cake. We formed the boat and barrels out of Rice Krispy treats, then covered them with marshmallow fondant. I painted the fondant with watered down food coloring to give it a wood grain look. Bo helped quite a bit and said his was the best in the class. A similar boat with a little island that had a treasure chest would be cute for a pirate party.

Zack's Soccer Cake
Hydrangea Wedding
My brother's girlfriend's brother was getting married and they asked me to do the cake. It was a three layered cake that served 150 people. The bottom layer was lemon, the middle was chocolate, and the top was white with strawberry filling. It was frosted in white buttercream with a dot border. The green hydrangeas were silk. Weddings are a lot of pressure and I was happy to hear the bride liked it.

Skulls and Crossbones
A friend asked me to make a cake for her neice's birthday. She said the little girl just loved skulls and crossbones. I thought that a little strange until I started looking online. There are some really cute skulls out there. This is a white cake with buttercream frosting and marshmallow fondant decorations. The hearts on top are fondant and are attached to sucker sticks. It turned out to be a very cute cake - even with skulls!
Elmo
I made this Elmo cake for a client last weekend. I made the Elmo from a 3D bear pan. I used my "secret recipe" that makes the cake more moist - but the bear caved in! It took until my third try. I thought that it all turned out cute though. The cake was for a first birthday, so the baby Elmo was perfect.

Fun Flower Cakes
Last week I had two bright floral cakes. The first was for our ward's Relief Society Birthday Party. They were using primary colors for the decorations, so I went with a yellow scheme. It is a white cake with lemon filling.
That weekend I also did a cake for a 1st birthday. The mom had brought over the plates she was using and I used that as inspiration. The plates were bright colors with white polka dots, edged in lime green, and had colorful daisies in the center. It was a layer of white and a layer of chocolate.

Calla Lilly Wedding
I did a wedding this weekend! A girl that used to be in my ward was getting remarried and heard I do cakes and flowers (which I don't really do, my sister does and I sometimes help). Anyway, for the cake I made these fondant calla lillies and wired them to insert into the cake. I thought it turned out pretty. The cake is chocolate with chocolate buttercream frosting. Here are also some pictures of the flowers. The bride's bouquet are hand-tied large calla lillies. Her daughter's bouquet are medium calla lillies and pale yellow roses. I also did a boutineer and 6 large centerpieces.
