Rapunzel "Tangled" Cake

I made this "Tangled"cake for a little girl who was turning 3. I used a plastic tower I had left over from a castle cake I had made. I built the little room on top of the tower and the base of the tower out of Rice Crispy Treats. I covered the rest of the tower in fondant.

This was a fun cake to try to figure out how to make. I had to send it with the customer in 3 pieces, to be assembled at the party. I hope they got it together OK!

Snow Family Cake

I made this cake for the family we had for Pixie Week. Pixie Week is when you are assigned a family and you leave little presents on their doorsteps, knock, and run for 3 nights. You are supposed to reveal yourself the last night, so we made a cake for the occasion. This is a 6 inch cake - so those snow people are pretty tiny. It was fun to make and I had wanted to try making the fondant trees I've seen decorators on TV make. They were very easy to make and the cake turned out so cute.

LDS Baptism Cake

I made this cake for a boy in our ward that was baptized this weekend. It is a lemon cake with a raspberry cream filling. I kept the cake simple, white polka dots on white, so that the CTR symbol would stand out more. It is hard to see in the picture, but the boy is wearing a white jumpsuit, that has a tiny zipper going up the top.

Pirate Cake

I made this pirate cake for a regular customer. It is a chocolate cake with peanut butter filling. I should have made the "island" bigger. The proportions are a little off, but I like the pirate and treasure chest. This was a fun one to make.

Witch Cake

A daughter ordered this cake for her mom. Her mom's birthday is on Halloween, so we thought a witch would be appropriate. It is a lemon cake.

Minnie Mouse Cake/Cupcakes & Stand

I had a client order the Minnie mouse cake I have done in the past, with mini-cupcakes. She wanted to display them together, so she ordered a cupcake stand as well. I found directions to make them online and it looked pretty simple. It took forever. I hadn't gotten tubes to go in the middle that would quite work. I finally got it. A project that should have taken 20 minutes took hours, but now I know what I'm doing.

Missionary Cake

My baby brother report to the MTC (Missionary Training Center) tomorrow, to serve for 2 years in Macon, Georgia. We had an Open House type dinner last week, so people could come wish him well. I made this cake for the occasion. The giant Peach the fondant missionary is sitting on is made of rice krispy treats. I covered it in fondant and painted it with food dye. The cake is white cake with a peach filling, of course!

Toy Story Woody Cake

I made this lemon cake for my son's 5th birthday party. It had a Toy Story/Woody theme. The hat is made of Rice Cripsy treats and I finally did it the right way. I frosted the Rice Crispy treat before putting the fondant over it! It came out so much smoother. It's amazing how much you learn everytime you make a cake.

Subaru Cake

My brother sent me an awesome picture of a Subaru Car Cake and asked me to make one for his co-worker. The pic he sent was so good. I do not usually carve cakes, so I thought I would try to make a sponge cake to make the carving process easier. It turned out more like a brick than cake. So.... I made a chocolate sponge cake and carved it. The cake turned out OK, but I think I need to stay away from too many carved cakes. This cake had me in tears.

Tank Cake

I made this chocolate cake with peanut butter filling for a 9 year old boy. It is frosted in chocolate whipped cream. The tank is made of cake covered in fondant.

Playing Card Cake

A customer ordered this cake for her dad. He is really into bridge. I wanted to make a good bridge hand on the cards on top, but my online research of bridge left me confused. I went with aces.

Princess Jasmine & Aladdin Cake

I made this cake for a little girl who loves Princess Jasmine. The Jasmine figure took forever to sculpt, because the fondant turned out a little gummier than normal. I put the figures on the magic carpet and decorated the cake like sky, then added the palace. This was a fun cake to make. I think my figures are always improving.

Movie Night Cake

I made this cake for a friend's daughter. The stage and curtains are backed in cardboard. I try to make my cakes as edible as possible - but somethings are just impossible. I like the way the little film can turned out. It was a white cake with a custard filling.

Neon Golf Cake

I made this cake for my friends son who was celebrating his birthday at King Put, a glow-in-the-dark miniature golf course. They wanted the cake in neon colors, but when I bought neon food dye the colors where mostly pinks and purples, so I had to just go with the brightest colors I had. I covered the chocolate cake with Oreo filling in black fondant, so it could be easily picked off. Black frosting stains your whole mouth and is so gross. I added a little putting green and did my best to make a round ball - whenever you set it down to dye one side always flattens out.

Pink Minnie Mouse Cake

This cake was for another 1 year old. I had made this cake in red previously, but the client wanted pink to match the party decor. The bottom layer was chocolate with buttercream filling, while the top layer was white cake with an Oreo filling.

Blues Clues Cake

I decorated this cake by piping an outline of Blue and filling it in with a small star tip for a client with a little boy turning 1.

Non-Gender Specific Birthday Cake

I needed to make a cake for a client's husband and grown daughter. I decided to just go for a random celebration feel and came up with this. This is a white cake with raspberry filling and frosted with whipped cream frosting.

Looking For a Client

I have a cake order from Susan for Friday, September 3. The number I have for you isn't working. Please contact me as soon as possible to work out the pick up of your cake.

Thank You!

Safari Friends Cake

A client emailed me about 6 months ago to make a cake for her son's first birthday. I penciled her in and waited. She sent me a link to these paper goods she was using for the party to use to create a design for the cake.

This is what I came up with. The bottom layer was chocolate with strawberry filling and the top layer was white cake with lemon filling. The smash cake was also chocolate. I really loved the way the smash cake turned out. Here's a close up:

Baby A Mini-Cupcakes

Last weekend I made these mini-cupcakes for a client who was having a baby naming celebration. The little one's name started with an A, so I made tiny letter As and little flowers to go with them. They were so cute. My kids ate a batch that were a little overcooked (this was my 1st time making mini-cupcakes, so I had to play with it a bit). They still loved them and especially liked popping the whole thing in their mouth.

35th Birthday Cake

I had a customer order this cake for her own birthday. It is nice to do something like that for yourself - I typically get Hostess Cupcakes for my birthday, which I love, but a cool cake not made by myself would be nice. The bottom layer was white cake with a strawberry cream filling, the middle was chocolate cake with a custard filling, and the top layer was lemon cake with a lemon jell filling.

Rose Anniversary Cake

My friend was throwing a party for their parent's 40th anniverasry and asked me to do a cake with roses. I had always wanted to make a cake like this. I frosted the cakes and piped cornelli lace on them. I stacked them with those plastic columns then hid the columns with fresh roses. The only glitch was that the columns were taller then I wanted so I had to have my husband saw and sand them down to the proper size!

Alice in Wonderland Cake

This is my first attempt at a topsy turvy cake. I watched a tutorial, but didn't exactly follow the directions. I learned a lot and I think I am ready to try to make one the proper way. I made this cake for my twin nieces' 12th birthday party. My husband said this is one of my best cakes, and I think I might have to agree, which is pretty amazing because my daughter's birthday party was the night before and I was working on about 3 hours sleep.

Roller Skate Cake

My daughter was having an 80's themed birthday party that included a trip to the roller rink (dressed up in totally awseome 80's gear). I made this cake for her. The roller skate is made of Rice Krispy Treats covered in fondant.

The Last Airbender Cake

My neighbor asked me to make a cake for her son's birthday. They were taking him and his friends to see The Last Airbender. I had seen previews, but had to do a little research to find out enough to make a cake. In the movie, the Avatar can control the elements, so I decided to cover the cake with fondant and paint (with food dye) a section of each cake for each element. I added round disc on each section with the symbol of the element. Then I made a figurine of Avatar. I enjoyed painting the fondant and trying out a new technique I have very little experience with.

Great to Be 8 CTR Cake

I made this white cake with lemon filling for a church activity. I frosted the cake white and then piped green cornelli lace on it. I topped it cake with a fondant CTR Shield. We had drinks made of sherbet and Sprite, which went perfect with the cake. It was a nice ending to a nice night.

Swim Party Fondant Figurine

I made this fondant figurine for a friend who was making a cake for her son's birthday.

This is how her cake turned out. How cute are the wafer cookies as the sides of the pool. I loved it!

Preschool

My other job is being a preschool teacher. This year I taught 9 sweet kids. We celebrated their graduation to Kindergarten last week. I made this lemon cake, frosted it, and decorated it with their names and a figurine (my son said it was him). They sang a few song and were so cute. I will miss them next year!

Poker Table Cake

I made this Poker Table cake for my client's son's 21st birthday. I baked the cakes and filled and frosted them, when I noticed the bottom layer was buckling. I sometimes forget how fragile cake is to work with. All the neighbors got a big chunk of cake and I started over. This was a chocolate cake with Oreo filling.

The client offered to bring over cards and chips, but as a cake decorator, I like the challenge of trying to make everything edible. I cut out these cards and let them dry overnight, then I used food dye to hand paint them.

Talent Show Star Cake

I made "A Star is Born" baby shower cake recently and my daughter, Camryn, thought it would be perfect for her birthday party. I just made a Camryn figure singing to put on top of the strawberry cake. Her party involved make overs, a photo shoot, and each girl sharing a talent. It was fun and Camryn loved her cake.

Chocolate Covered Oreos

If you think Oreos are chocolatey enough on their own, you would be mistaken. My daughter and I found these chocolate molds that coat Oreo cookies. She brought these to her school class and her musical theater class on her birthday. Her theater class is putting on a production of Beauty and the Beast next month and we thought the rose molds were perfect. We wrapped them in little treat bags with a tag that said Happy Birthday Camryn! on them. The kids loved them.

Ladybug Cake

A client asked me to make a cake for her daughter's first birthday. She sent me a picture of the plates they were using and I tried to match the theme and color scheme. The cake is a white with fresh, sliced strawberries in the middle. I am always trying to find ways to make more elements on my cakes edible, so the ladybugs are made of rice krispy treats, covered with marshmallow fondant.

A Star is Born Shower Cake

I made this cake for my friend, Autumn's baby shower. She is having a girl, but fruffy pink is not her style. She came up with "A Star is Born" theme and had movie decorations and games. I made this cake to fit that theme, and I think it is my favorite shower cake I've done. The little movie camera came out so cute. The cake was chocolate with raspberry filling. I had a good time at the shower and I am so excited for Autumn's little girl to arrive.

Baby Girl Shower Cake

Last weekend I made this cake for a baby shower. The customer just said to make something girly. This is pretty girly. The cake is marble with a chocolate cream inside and frosted with whipped cream frosting. I decorated with fondant ribbon roses and baby.

Minnie Mouse Cake

Last weekend I made this cake for a friend's little girl who was turning 3. It was actually a very simple cake - lots of circles! The hardest part was getting a true red when making the frosting. This was a lemon cake.

Skateboard Skull Cake

I had a customer send me a picture of this skateboard they were getting their 16 year old boy for his birthday. They asked if I could make a cake like it. This is what I came up with:

I made two 9 x 13 cakes and rounded off the edges. I frosted them and covered the top with fondant. I painted the skeleton light bulb with food dye and lemon extract. The wheels are made of Rice Krispy treats covered in fondant. The wheels were the hardest part. I also made a little round cake to be sure there was enough servings.

Lavender Wedding

My mom knew someone having a very small wedding and wanted them to have a little wedding cake. I made this white cake and frosted it. Then I piped on flowers and used a paint brush to make it look like embroidery. I made a lavender ribbon and bow to add the bride's color. It was very simple but turned out nice.

We wanted the bride to have a bouquet also. I have helped my sister do flowers and know just enough about it to come up with a simple bouquet and a boutonniere. I just went to Sam's club and had to work with the flowers they had on hand. This is what I came up with.

February Cakes

Last week I made two cakes that I had done before. This flower cake was for a little girl's dress up tea party. The girls came to pick it up with their mom and were so cute in their fancy dresses. This cake is turning into a favorite.

I also made a cake for twin boys that were getting baptized. Their mom had won the cake in an auction I had donated to, to help a friend's dad with medical expenses. I was so glad to help.
